Kankakee County Health Department officials announced Monday 27 new COVID-19 cases. The cases are a total sum announced since Friday afternoon. That brings cases total in the County to 1,681, of which 426 are currently active.
Two new deaths were added to totals on Monday, bringing COVID-19 related deaths in the County to 65. They’re the first deaths in the Kankakee County area announced due to the pandemic since late June.
Among today’s new cases included five children of teenage age or younger. Cases ranged from under 13 years old to over 70.
The double-digit rise in numbers come after a week where Kankakee/Will Region 7 area reached a peak for the past month. As of Wednesday, the region’s seven day positivity rate was 5.7%. Up a full percentage point since July 13th when the rate was 4.4% for the region.
