JASPER COUNTY – Two juveniles have died after a crash with a tractor followed by a fire.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Police say it happened Saturday at 5:46 pm east of County Rd. 200 W. on State Rd. 14 when the car hit the back of a tractor towing the implement. Deputies had responded to the crash to find the car on fire with the two kids trapped inside. The fire was quickly extinguished but the kids had already been killed.

The names of the victims are being withheld until notification has been given.

The tractor driver, identified by State Police as 36-year-old Rudi Gericke of Morgantown, was not injured in the crash and refused medical attention.

The road was closed for nearly five hours before reopening while an investigation was underway. The cause of the crash remains under investigation with Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
