Three Illinois Teens Charged in Shocking Murder Case in Aurora

Aurora, IL – Aurora Police Department (APD) has cracked the case surrounding a fatal shooting that occurred on the city’s West Side. Three juveniles, aged 15 and 16, have been apprehended and charged with First-Degree Murder, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to investigators it began August 20th, after multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a vehicle crash and a person shot in the 1300 block of N. Glen Circle. Responding officers discovered the lifeless body of 19-year-old Edwin Varela inside the crashed vehicle, his life cut tragically short by gunshot wounds. Despite the valiant efforts of Aurora Fire Department Paramedics, Varela was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

The investigation that followed revealed three male juveniles, whose identities are being protected due to their age, were not only charged with First-Degree Murder, but also hit with counts of Armed Robbery and other serious charges. The incident escalated further with the 16-year-old facing additional charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon with No FOID.

The arrest of the three juveniles, hailing from Aurora and Montgomery, came on August 24th, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.
