KANKAKEE, IL – City Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning in the area of 1000 South 3rd Avenue. A 24-year-old male self-admitted to Riverside Hospital with a gunshot wound shortly after 4:00 am. Detectives are actively working on the case and trying to determine if the shooting is related to several car burglaries that also occurred in the same area.
Residents in the vicinity took to social media to report multiple car burglaries. Many shared information on Amazon’s Ring Neighbors app, asking for video footage that may have been captured. One post read, “Car break-in at 1500 S 6th. Does anyone have any Ring footage they are willing to share?” Another resident reported, “Truck was broken into last night on S 4th Ave. If anyone has any footage, please come forward.”
The police department is urging homeowners who may have video or other information related to the incident to contact them at 815-933-0402. Detectives are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and car burglaries and are asking for the community’s assistance in providing any relevant information.
