Chebanse, IL – In a shocking incident late Monday evening, a Chebanse woman was arrested after allegedly brandishing a firearm at a child while under the influence of alcohol. The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Police were summoned to a trailer on Route 45/52 around 10:30 PM following reports of an intoxicated woman causing a disturbance.
According to Kankakee County Sheriff’s Police reports, on arrival, officers were greeted with cries for help emanating from inside the home. A dramatic turn of events unfolded as one of the children inside ran to the deputies, pleading not to get his mother into trouble. The deputies quickly intervened to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Inside the trailer, the officers reportedly found an empty firearm case and various ammunition scattered about, confirming the presence of a gun. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Veronica Ayala, was reportedly visibly intoxicated. According to police reports, one of the children accused Ayala of pointing the gun at him, though thankfully, no shots were fired.
Ayala was taken into custody facing severe charges, including child endangerment, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and reckless conduct.
