Iroquois County, IL – Aubrey Wagner, a distinguished senior at Iroquois West High School in Iroquois County, has earned a spot on the 2024 LIUNA! Difference Maker Team.

This accolade, awarded by the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), honors student-athletes from IHSA schools who exemplify teamwork, work ethic, and selflessness.

Wagner, who excels in basketball, softball, and volleyball, has been recognized not only for her athletic prowess but also for her exemplary character and leadership.

LIUNA’s Difference Maker Team selects students who are role models in their communities and who demonstrate qualities essential for building successful teams and contributing positively to society.

According to Terry Whitecotton, LIUNA Administrator for the Joint Apprenticeship & Training Program, these students show “dedication, resilience, and community spirit.” Wagner’s coach, Kristy Arie, noted her relentless effort and positive influence, stating, “Aubrey is the type of kid that has made me a better person and a better coach.  When things aren’t going well, I want to find a way to fix it for kids like her because I know she’s trying everything she possibly can to get the result that we want as a team.”

The recognition brings significant acknowledgment to Wagner’s dedication, highlighting her as a catalyst for team spirit and a beacon of motivation for her peers.

As part of the honor, Wagner and her fellow honorees received LIUNA hard hats, symbolizing the grit and determination required to excel both in sports and in life. This distinction not only celebrates high school athletes who lead by example but also underscores the impact of sportsmanship in shaping future leaders.
