ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. — The sudden appearance of a blood-drenched man at a Joliet home on Saturday set off a frenzied manhunt spanning Will County to Lake County culminating in a dramatic arrest facilitated by the heroic Lake County Sheriff’s K9, Dax.

According to Lake County Sheriff’s reports, Sanjuan Reyes, 36, appeared at the home in an alarming state, causing grave concerns amongst family members. His abrupt exit only intensified their anxieties, prompting an urgent call to Joliet authorities. As the search widened, police in Round Lake Beach discovered Reyes’ vehicle, ominously smeared with blood, near Route 83 and Rollins Road.

Disturbing details emerged. Reyes was alleged to have brutally battered a 39-year-old woman in Waukegan, leading to significant injuries, including broken bones. She is currently undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. Her identity has not been released.

As the search climaxed, K9 Dax trailed Reyes for a half a mile, confronting the suspect in a dense bush line. Officers report Reyes was aggressive, striking the K9 officer, who continued to work towards facilitating the arrest.

Reyes now faces a litany of charges, including Aggravated Domestic Battery and Assault on a Police Animal.
