75th COVID-19 death announced in Kankakee County, 40 cases Thursday

Region 7’s rolling seven-day positivity rating climbed a full percentage point since Sunday, now at 6.6%

KANKAKEE – Kankakee County Health Department (KCHD) officials announced a new COVID-19 death in the area on Thursday, becoming the 75th resident to fall to the pandemic locally.

The announcement came as the Agency reported 40 new confirmed COVID cases on Thursday, including 13 residents age 19 or younger.  There have now been 3,076 cases locally since March. KCHD has announced 115 new COVID-19 case since last Saturday.

As of Thursday, there were 392 active cases in the County, with 14 area residents hospitalized due to the virus.

Since Sunday, Region 7 has seen an increase in the rolling seven-day positivity rate, rising from 5.6 percent Sunday to 6.6 percent Thursday.  The area could see additional mitigations issued by the State of Illinois if the seven-day positivity rating climbs above 8 percent.
