Duluth, Minnesota Weather: 30 MPH Winds and Widespread Rain Arrive Monday Before a Gusty Tuesday

Duluth, Minnesota – Northern Minnesota residents should prepare now for temperatures dropping into the 30s Sunday night before widespread showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 30 mph move across the Northland Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, early fall conditions will hold through early next week, with cooler-than-normal temperatures and a chance of frost Sunday night. Monday brings the most widespread rain, with embedded thunderstorms and southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph gusting to 30 mph.
Sunday will stay cool across northern Minnesota, with highs of 56 to 66 degrees and northwest winds of 5 to 15 mph. Gusts could reach 20 mph. A few inland lake-effect showers are possible near the International Border.
Temperatures Sunday night fall to 33 to 44 degrees, putting colder inland communities at risk for frost. Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should consider protecting them before temperatures reach their overnight minimums.
Duluth falls to around 45 degrees Saturday night, while International Falls drops to 44, Virginia to 42 and Ely to 44. Communities near Lake Superior remain somewhat milder, including Two Harbors at 49 degrees.
Monday's rain and thunderstorms could affect travel on I-35, U.S. 53 and other northern Minnesota routes. Drivers should watch for reduced visibility, standing water and sudden wind gusts.
Rain ends early Tuesday, but northwest winds may continue gusting to 30 mph. Additional weather alerts could follow as Monday's thunderstorms approach.
