Twin Cities Weather Friday: Strong Storms Possible by Evening

Minneapolis, MN – A stretch of calm, sunny weather across the Twin Cities and surrounding Minnesota communities will give way to stronger winds and thunderstorms Friday, with forecasters warning that some storms could become strong.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, quiet weather will continue into Friday before the next weather system approaches. Winds will strengthen from the south during the day, with gusts of 30 to 35 mph possible.

Thursday is expected to provide the best weather for outdoor plans. Sunshine is forecast across the region with southwest winds around 10 mph. Afternoon temperatures will range from 77 to 83 degrees, with overnight lows between 55 and 65.

Conditions become more active Friday.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop late Friday afternoon and continue into the evening, the Weather Service said. Some thunderstorms could become strong, although forecasters did not specify individual severe weather hazards in Wednesday afternoon's update.

Before storms arrive, southerly winds of 15 to 20 mph will increase, with higher gusts possible. Friday temperatures are expected to reach between 78 and 86 degrees before falling into the 50s and lower 60s overnight.

For residents across Minneapolis, St. Paul and the broader Twin Cities region, the timing means Friday evening travel, outdoor events and other plans could be affected by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Wednesday night will remain clear, with light west winds around 5 mph and lows ranging from 48 to 58 degrees.
