Illinois: Mattel Waterpark Anticipated to Break Ground by Early October in Bradley

Bradley, Illinois – Plans for the highly anticipated $90 million Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark are officially moving forward. The project, which is poised to become a major economic engine for Kankakee County, will feature over two acres of indoor attractions, including potential themes ranging from Barbie to Hot Wheels.
According to the village of Bradley, the project is entering its design phase following a unanimous vote by the Village Board on December 30, 2025. Martin Aquatic Design & Engineering, a firm based in Orlando, has been selected to lead the design work, which will incorporate thematic elements for the year-round attraction.
Construction is expected to progress throughout 2026, with site work slated to begin in the summer. The facility will be located along Northfield Meadows Boulevard, offering high visibility for travelers along Interstate 57. The village has secured funding through $80 million in government obligation bonds, utilizing TIF revenues and local taxes without implementing new tax hikes for residents.

Mayor Mike Watson recently confirmed that the village expects to break ground on the entire site by the beginning of October 2026. While official attraction details remain under wraps, the park is projected to open to the public in late 2027 or early 2028, serving as a regional destination for families across the Midwest.
