Valhermoso Springs, AL – Authorities in Morgan County are investigating after a missing 2-year-old child was found in the water Wednesday in Valhermoso Springs.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, investigators, EMS personnel, volunteer firefighters, and the county coroner responded to Talucah Landing after receiving a report involving a missing child.
Officials said the toddler was later located in the water. First responders immediately began CPR and other life-saving measures at the scene before the child was transported to Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Huntsville.
Authorities confirmed the child later died at the hospital.
The sheriff’s office did not release additional details regarding how long the child may have been missing or the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators have also not publicly identified the child.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies assisted in the response effort as authorities worked to locate and rescue the toddler.
In a statement shared online, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office asked the community to keep the child’s family and responding first responders in their thoughts following the tragedy.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
