Austin, TX – Texans are facing another bitterly cold day as dangerously low wind chills and strong gusts continue through Thursday morning. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning and Wind Advisory for Central Texas, including Austin, San Marcos, and Bastrop.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chills could drop as low as 5°F, with north winds of 15-25 mph and gusts reaching 40 mph. These conditions can cause frostbite and hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Residents should dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit outdoor activities.
Thursday will remain cold, with a high near 40°F and gusty winds continuing. By Friday, temperatures will begin to moderate, reaching a high near 38°F, but clouds will persist. A warming trend begins Saturday, with highs climbing to 46°F and a 40% chance of showers. By Sunday, sunshine returns, pushing temperatures into the mid-60s.
Residents should continue monitoring forecasts and take precautions against the extreme cold. Ensure pets are indoors, protect pipes from freezing, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
