Piketon, OH – Heavy rainfall from overnight thunderstorms has triggered a flood warning in Pike County, Ohio, effective until 8 a.m. EST Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, radar detected between 1 and 2 inches of rain by 2:19 a.m., with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch expected. Low-lying areas, including rivers, creeks, and streams, are at high risk of flooding.
Flood-prone locations include Waverly, Piketon, Pike Lake, and Beaver, along with smaller communities like Buchanan, Elm Grove, and Stockdale. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
Authorities advise using caution and reporting flooding via the National Weather Service website or social media when safe. This warning remains active as additional rainfall continues across the region.
