Colorado Springs, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to hit Colorado this weekend, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous road conditions. Drivers should expect delays and dangerous travel, particularly along I-25 and mountain passes, as snow accumulation and gusty winds create low visibility and icy roads.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin late Friday evening and intensify overnight into Saturday. The storm is expected to bring between one and two feet of snow to the high elevations, with locally higher amounts in the southwest-facing slopes. Winds gusting up to 65 mph will create whiteout conditions, particularly along southern I-25 and Wolf Creek Pass.

Saturday will see continued snowfall throughout the day, with temperatures dropping into the teens at night. Travel will be treacherous across much of the state, and officials urge motorists to delay trips if possible, carry emergency kits, and check real-time road conditions before heading out. Snow will taper off Saturday night, but cold temperatures and lingering ice will keep roads slick into Sunday.

Sunday is expected to bring partial clearing with highs reaching the mid-30s, though gusty winds will persist in some areas. Another system could bring additional snow by Tuesday and Wednesday, leading to a second round of potential travel disruptions.

In addition to travel concerns, the National Weather Service warns of blowing and drifting snow, which could create near-zero visibility in exposed areas. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power outages due to high winds and heavy snow accumulation.

With winter conditions worsening, travelers should monitor updates, avoid unnecessary trips, and ensure their vehicles are winter-ready. Stay tuned for further weather advisories as the storm develops.
