Buffalo, NY – A winter storm is bringing freezing rain, snow, and gusty winds to western New York, creating hazardous road conditions through Thursday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday, warning of icy roads and reduced visibility.
According to the NWS Buffalo, snowfall will begin Wednesday afternoon, transitioning into freezing rain before midnight. Accumulations of up to one inch of snow and light ice buildup are expected. Winds could gust over 40 mph, making travel dangerous, especially along Interstate 90 and Route 33.
Thursday morning will bring lingering snow showers, with high temperatures reaching 37°F. Roads may remain slick, so commuters should allow extra travel time. By Friday, conditions improve slightly, but another round of snow is forecast for Saturday.
For those with Valentine’s weekend plans, expect additional snowfall Saturday into Sunday. Travelers should monitor weather updates and use caution on untreated roads.
Drivers are urged to check 511NY for real-time traffic conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.
