South Bend, IN – A winter weather advisory has been issued for northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain starting Wednesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. EST (noon CST) Wednesday until 7 a.m. EST (6 a.m. CST) Thursday. Snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches are expected, with the heaviest snowfall in northwest Indiana and southern Michigan. Ice accumulation could reach up to a tenth of an inch, increasing the risk of slick roads.
The hazardous conditions may significantly impact the Wednesday evening commute, with reduced visibility and slippery roads likely. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time.
The affected areas include Elkhart, LaGrange, Noble, DeKalb, Starke, Marshall, Whitley, and Kosciusko counties in Indiana, as well as Cass, St. Joseph, Branch, and Hillsdale counties in Michigan. Williams and Fulton counties in Ohio are also under the advisory.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and check 511 for real-time road conditions. Anyone traveling should carry an emergency kit, including blankets, flashlights, and extra batteries.
