St. Louis, MO – A significant winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to parts of Missouri and Illinois, with accumulations reaching up to 7 inches. The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, particularly during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from midnight Tuesday through 9 p.m. Wednesday for parts of west-central Illinois and central and northeast Missouri, including Quincy, Hannibal, Columbia, and Mexico, MO. Snowfall in these areas is expected to total between 4 and 7 inches.

Further east, portions of central Illinois, including Peoria, Galesburg, and Jacksonville, will also see heavy snow from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday, with totals ranging from 5 to 7 inches.

Officials warn that travel could become extremely difficult, with rapid snow accumulation reducing visibility and causing slick roadways. Motorists are advised to carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights.
