Sacramento, CA – A powerful winter storm has brought heavy rain and snow to Northern California, affecting travel and daily life.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento, Palisades Summit recorded 14 inches of snow, while Boreal and Sugar Bowl Summit saw 9 inches. Other areas, including Kirkwood and Sierra at Tahoe, reported 10 inches.

Rainfall totals exceeded 2 inches in some locations, including Sacramento and Redding. The heaviest precipitation impacted the Sierra Nevada, causing hazardous road conditions. The California Department of Transportation advised drivers to check road conditions before traveling.

Strong winds accompanied the storm, increasing the risk of falling trees and power outages. Residents are urged to stay cautious and prepare for additional wet weather.

More rain and snow are expected later this week, with colder temperatures persisting. Travelers heading to higher elevations should carry chains and emergency supplies.
