Arlington Heights, IL – Officials will present findings on the December 6 Groot garbage truck explosion during a Village Board meeting on February 18. The Arlington Heights Fire Department investigated the cause of the blast, which injured three first responders.
According to village officials, the explosion occurred on Derbyshire Lane when a portion of the compressed natural gas-powered truck exploded. A shock wave damaged nearby homes, shattered windows, and propelled debris several blocks.
The fire department aggressively contained the fire while forensic technicians documented the scene. Investigators reviewed vehicle maintenance records, fuel system integrity, and explosion patterns. Their findings will be presented at the meeting.
A Groot representative will attend to address resident concerns. The public can submit questions before February 11. The meeting will be streamed live on the village’s website and YouTube.
Residents affected by the explosion are encouraged to attend or watch the presentation.
