A wave of unseasonably warm weather could shatter temperature records in Wisconsin and Minnesota on Thursday. Highs are expected to climb into the upper 50s, potentially breaking long-standing records.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in La Crosse, temperatures in Rochester and La Crosse may hit 57°F and 58°F, surpassing records from 1944, 1981, and 1987. Areas north of I-94 will remain cooler but should still see temperatures in the 50s.
Winds will be present but not as strong as earlier this week. Cloud cover from the south may impact how warm it gets. If skies remain clear, La Crosse and Rochester could experience one of their warmest January days on record.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the mild weather before colder temperatures return.
