Memphis, TN – A significant rain event is expected to impact Memphis and surrounding areas this week, bringing the risk of flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, showers will begin Wednesday night, with heavy rainfall expected Thursday into early Friday. Rainfall totals could exceed 2 inches in some locations, leading to potential flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Commuters along Interstate 40, Highway 51, and I-240 should prepare for wet roads, slower travel, and possible ponding.

Temperatures will remain mild throughout the system, with highs reaching the mid-60s on Thursday before gradually cooling into the mid-50s by the weekend. Winds will also increase, with gusts up to 20 mph expected on Thursday.

Friday morning may see lingering showers, but conditions will improve by the afternoon, giving way to a drier and cooler pattern. Sunshine returns by Saturday, bringing highs near 55°F.

Residents should stay weather-aware, monitor local forecasts, and avoid flooded roadways. The NWS advises keeping emergency kits ready and checking for updated alerts as conditions evolve.
