Caribou, ME – Arctic temperatures and snow are set to grip northern Maine as a cold front moves through early next week. Sunday will see milder conditions with highs near 25 degrees but a chance of snow showers throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service, gusty southerly winds will develop Monday evening, reaching speeds up to 35 mph. Snow showers are expected late Monday into Tuesday morning, with accumulations likely in Aroostook County. Drivers on Route 1 and surrounding roads should prepare for slippery conditions during peak morning commute hours.
By Tuesday, temperatures will drop sharply as the Arctic front passes, with daytime highs near 21 degrees and wind chills plunging below zero. Snow squalls are possible, reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel. Bitter cold will persist into Wednesday, with overnight lows around -8 degrees and a slight chance of snow lingering.
Residents should plan for winter weather disruptions and take precautions, including checking vehicle preparedness and ensuring adequate heating supplies. Local officials remind residents to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy snow or wind gusts.
Looking ahead, the cold will ease slightly by Thursday, but highs will remain in the single digits, making this one of the coldest weeks of the season so far.
