Marquette, MI – Lake effect snow will pick up in intensity tonight, bringing up to six inches of accumulation in northwest wind snow belts. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises residents to expect hazardous road conditions, particularly in the Keweenaw Peninsula and surrounding areas.

According to the NWS, scattered snow showers will begin late Saturday evening and intensify overnight as northwest winds strengthen. Blowing snow could reduce visibility to dangerous levels, especially along US-41 and M-28. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel where possible. Temperatures will drop to lows between 1 and 18 degrees, with wind chills nearing zero.

Snow showers are likely to persist through Sunday, with accumulations tapering off by late afternoon. Highs will reach near 26 degrees, but gusts of up to 30 mph will create wind chills well below freezing. Monday’s forecast calls for additional snow showers, particularly after noon, accompanied by gusty winds.

Looking ahead to midweek, conditions will remain cold, with highs in the low 20s and snow showers likely through Tuesday. Residents should prepare for slick sidewalks and driveways, especially near lakefront areas where snow totals may be higher.
