Twin Cities, MN – An extreme cold warning remains in effect across Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin, with wind chills plunging as low as -40°F through noon Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns residents in areas including St. Cloud, Blaine, and Stillwater to limit outdoor exposure.

According to the NWS, the warning, which began Monday, extends to regions in both states, including Benton, Anoka, and Washington counties in Minnesota and St. Croix and Eau Claire counties in Wisconsin. The coldest wind chills will occur overnight into early Tuesday morning. Frostbite can develop on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes under these conditions.

Residents are urged to stay indoors or wear multiple layers if venturing outside. Essential items include hats, scarves, and gloves to minimize heat loss and protect against hypothermia. Officials also advise keeping pets indoors and using portable heaters safely.

For western Wisconsin, a cold weather advisory remains in effect until midnight Monday, followed by an extreme cold warning starting at 12 a.m. and lasting until noon Tuesday. Wind chills there are expected to drop to -37°F, posing a similar frostbite risk.

The NWS continues to monitor conditions and advises frequent checks on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and neighbors.
