Quad Cities, IA/IL — The Midwest is bracing for dangerous cold as wind chills plunge below zero across the region. Temperatures in the teens and 20s below zero, with some areas experiencing wind chills near -35 degrees, are expected through Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for the area. The coldest wind chills will occur along Highway 20, with conditions ranging from -10 to -30. Winds from the northwest are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, increasing exposure risk.

The advisory is in effect through Monday night into Tuesday, with single-digit temperatures combining with gusty winds to create life-threatening conditions. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure, wear layered clothing, and cover exposed skin to prevent frostbite.

The NWS also warns that highways may see reduced visibility due to wind-blown snow, creating hazardous driving conditions.

This deep freeze is unusual for this time of year, with wind chill levels rivaling records from past severe winters.

Bundle up and take extra precautions if venturing outdoors, as frostbite can occur in less than 10 minutes under these conditions.
