Kankakee, IL – January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, highlighting efforts to combat the hidden crime of trafficking. Clove Alliance, a nonprofit in Kankakee, works to support survivors and prevent exploitation.
According to Clove Alliance, sex trafficking involves coercion, fraud, or force to compel victims into commercial sex. Traffickers target vulnerable individuals, including those facing poverty, homelessness, or abuse. Clove Alliance helps survivors in Kankakee, Iroquois, and Ford counties, supporting up to five trafficking survivors annually.
The National Human Trafficking Hotline receives 700-900 tips from Illinois each year, with most tied to sex trafficking. Key indicators include victims appearing controlled, living in poor conditions, or showing physical abuse.
Clove Alliance encourages residents to learn the signs, share credible resources, and participate in awareness events.
Survivors can access Clove’s 24/7 hotline for crisis support at 815-932-3322. Advocacy, counseling, and legal assistance are available. For more, visit clovealliance.org.
