Grand Forks, ND – Residents of northwest Minnesota and the Red River Valley are advised to stay alert for freezing fog and slick road conditions this Christmas Day. A gusty south wind will accompany low visibility, with areas of patchy snow increasing travel risks across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, flurries will continue into tonight, with freezing drizzle expected to develop after midnight. Untreated surfaces, bridges, and sidewalks may become hazardous, creating additional challenges for holiday travelers. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra distance between vehicles on affected roads, particularly along Interstate 29 and nearby highways.

Looking ahead, patchy fog may persist into Thursday morning as temperatures gradually rise, reaching a high near 32°F. Thursday evening will remain mostly cloudy with calmer winds from the south at 8 mph. By Friday, conditions improve slightly with highs climbing to 36°F, but a chance of light rain reemerges later in the day.

The weekend promises more favorable weather, with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-30s. However, areas experiencing freezing fog today and Thursday should exercise caution when venturing out, as black ice could linger despite warmer daytime temperatures.

Stay informed with regular weather updates and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as the holiday week progresses.
