Buffalo, NY – Post-Christmas travelers can enjoy mild and dry conditions across Western New York today, but rain is on the horizon. The region will see mostly sunny skies on Thursday before weekend showers bring potential disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s high will reach 34°F with light winds from the east, creating a calm and manageable day for holiday travel. Tonight, temperatures will dip to 22°F under partly cloudy skies, continuing the clear weather trend through Thursday. However, drivers should prepare for potential slick spots on untreated roads during early morning hours due to frost.

Thursday will feature a high near 36°F with sunshine and calm conditions, making it an ideal day for post-holiday errands. However, Friday’s high of 41°F will bring increasing clouds and a slight chance of showers by the evening, especially in southern areas near Lake Erie.

The weekend marks a shift in weather patterns. Saturday will see a 50% chance of rain during the day as highs climb to 48°F. By Saturday night, showers are likely, with a 70% chance of rain continuing into Sunday. Temperatures will reach an unseasonably warm 54°F on Sunday, though roads could become slippery due to rainfall accumulation.

Travelers should monitor updates for potential disruptions, especially those planning to drive on major highways like Interstate 90. Stay cautious of black ice in the mornings as overnight temperatures drop into the 20s and 30s.
