Buffalo, NY – Western New York residents are set for a major weather shift this week as frigid temperatures ease into a milder trend.

Monday night’s lows are expected to dip as far as -6°F in some areas, with single-digit and sub-zero temperatures dominating across the region. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the coldest period will occur around 2 a.m. However, temperatures will begin a steady rise into Tuesday morning, marking the end of the bitter cold.

By Tuesday, snow is expected to move into Buffalo, potentially mixing with rain later in the day. Forecasts indicate highs near 35°F with a chance of precipitation around 60%. The NWS predicts less than half an inch of snow accumulation during the day, with an additional 1 to 3 inches possible Tuesday night as temperatures dip to the upper 20s.

Christmas Day on Wednesday will bring much-needed relief, with mostly cloudy skies and highs reaching 35°F. Calm winds should create favorable conditions for travel and holiday gatherings. As the week continues, Thursday will see partly sunny skies and highs near 36°F, followed by mild temperatures climbing to 40°F by Friday.

Residents are advised to remain cautious of icy roads, particularly Monday night along Highmark Road and other local thoroughfares. Commuters should allow extra time for travel due to potential snow showers late Monday and into Tuesday.
