According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the system will move into the region late Friday, with precipitation starting as snow before transitioning to a mix of rain and ice overnight. The Upper Mississippi River Valley, including areas along I-94 and Highway 29, could see hazardous road conditions into Saturday morning.
Temperatures will hover near freezing, increasing the risk of ice accumulation on untreated surfaces. Gusty winds may further reduce visibility in some areas, creating challenges for travelers. Saturday’s highs will rise to the low 30s, turning precipitation to rain in southern areas, while northern Wisconsin could see several inches of snow. Conditions will gradually improve Saturday evening as the storm exits, but refreezing is possible overnight as temperatures drop again.
Looking ahead to Sunday, calmer weather will return, with highs reaching the mid-30s under partly cloudy skies. However, another system may bring light snow or flurries early next week, keeping the region in a wintry pattern.
