Austin, TX – A powerful cold front is poised to bring significant changes to South-Central Texas weather starting Tuesday, including the season’s first freeze. Temperatures are expected to plummet overnight, with lows dipping into the mid-30s by early Wednesday. Residents should prepare for frosty mornings and potentially hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, strong winds up to 20 mph will accompany the front, creating colder wind chills and impacting roadways, particularly along I-35. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect today, with reduced visibility down to a quarter mile in some areas, posing risks for commuters. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, use headlights, and allow extra travel time.

Temperatures are forecast to remain chilly through Thursday, with daytime highs struggling to surpass the mid-60s. Clear skies will dominate midweek, but a chance of showers develops late Friday into Saturday as southerly winds return. Highs will rebound slightly to the 70s by the weekend.

The first freeze could trigger Freeze Warnings, especially in rural areas. Sensitive plants should be covered, and outdoor pets brought inside. Homeowners are encouraged to insulate pipes to prevent potential freezing.

Looking ahead, seasonal conditions are expected to return by Sunday. Stay updated on weather alerts by visiting the National Weather Service’s website or checking local forecasts.
