Duluth, MN – Drivers and residents across Minnesota are bracing for dense fog, blustery snow, and dangerously cold temperatures this week. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. today, particularly impacting the I-35 corridor through Hinckley, Aitkin, and surrounding areas. Visibility has dropped to as low as a quarter-mile, making travel hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service, low-beam headlights and increased stopping distances are essential for navigating affected roads this morning. The fog will clear later today, but snowfall and dangerously cold wind chills are set to take its place.
A Winter Weather Advisory begins tonight for northern Wisconsin’s Iron County, where lake-effect snow could add up to 6 inches through Tuesday morning. Further north, Duluth and surrounding areas face light snow through Tuesday afternoon, with temperatures dipping into single digits.
By Wednesday, Arctic air will sweep across Minnesota, driving wind chills down to 20 below zero. Thursday morning brings the most extreme conditions, with wind chills plunging to 40 below zero in some areas. Frostbite can occur in as little as 15 minutes under these conditions.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure and bundle up if heading outside. While conditions improve slightly Thursday, temperatures remain well below freezing into the weekend.
