Gaylord, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Chippewa and Mackinac counties as snow and freezing rain impact travel conditions today. Commuters are urged to plan for slippery roads, especially during morning and midday travel.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory is active until 4 p.m. in Western and Central Chippewa County and until 1 p.m. in Southeast Chippewa and Eastern Mackinac counties. Snow accumulation of up to two inches and ice accumulation up to one-tenth of an inch are possible.

Hazardous conditions could affect travel along major roadways, including portions of I-75, M-28, and US-2. Officials recommend reducing speeds and maintaining a safe following distance to prevent accidents on icy surfaces.

Forecasters warn that inland areas away from Lake Huron will see the highest risk of freezing rain this morning. Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing throughout the day, causing ongoing challenges for road crews.
