Champaign, IL – A warm and breezy Sunday in central Illinois will transition to rainy conditions east of the Illinois River tonight, followed by a significant drop in temperatures by midweek. Residents should prepare for a mix of wet roads tonight and freezing temperatures arriving by Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rain is expected to develop late Sunday night, particularly along and east of I-55, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-40s. Monday will remain mild with highs in the low 50s, but gusty winds may accompany lingering showers in the morning. Cooler air will arrive by Monday night, with lows near freezing and dry conditions.
By Tuesday, expect partly sunny skies with highs struggling to reach the low 40s. Temperatures will plummet Tuesday night, dropping into the teens. The real chill sets in Wednesday when highs will hover near 30 degrees, with wind chills in the teens. Snow flurries are possible Wednesday morning but are not expected to accumulate.
The extended forecast shows continued cold through the weekend, with highs in the 20s and 30s. A chance of light snow or rain could return by Friday night, so travelers should monitor updates closely.
Be sure to secure outdoor decorations, dress in layers, and allow extra time for travel as the weather shifts. Stay tuned for updates on snow potential later in the week.
