Eastern Kentucky residents should prepare for a warmer weekend before widespread rain arrives late Sunday, especially along I-75. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 50s Sunday and Monday, but wet weather could impact travel plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY, dry weather will persist through Saturday under clear skies, with lows dipping to the upper 20s tonight. By Sunday evening, rain showers will develop along and east of I-75 as a low-pressure system moves into the region. Rain will become widespread Sunday night, with some areas receiving up to three-quarters of an inch by Monday afternoon.

Highs will climb to near 59 degrees Monday before cooler air and possible snow arrive by midweek. The first chance of snow appears late Tuesday into Wednesday as temperatures drop to the 30s. Commuters should monitor road conditions, especially if traveling Tuesday night or Wednesday morning when rain may transition to snow.

Looking ahead, sunshine is expected to return Thursday, but highs will remain chilly, peaking near 38 degrees.

Be sure to stay updated on changing conditions and carry an umbrella if heading out Sunday night or Monday. Drivers should also be cautious during next week’s potential wintry weather.
