Carterville, IL – Illinois deputies rescued a pregnant driver whose brakeless vehicle was heading toward Crab Orchard Lake late Saturday night.
The incident unfolded around 10:02 p.m. when the driver called 911, reporting her car was out of control and wouldn’t stop while traveling westbound on Route 13 near Carterville. The vehicle, moving at 30 mph, posed an escalating danger.
According to Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich, deputies executed a rolling roadblock to safely stop the vehicle. A patrol car overtook the brakeless car and gradually slowed in front of it, gently bringing both vehicles to a halt about a quarter-mile from the lake.
The patrol car sustained minor damage, but no injuries were reported. Officials praised the quick thinking and precision of the deputies, which likely prevented a tragedy.
