Lake Charles, LA – Residents across Southwest Louisiana should prepare for heavy rain and possible thunderstorms starting Wednesday night and continuing through Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a 90% chance of precipitation on Thursday, with potential localized flooding along key travel routes, including I-10.

According to the NWS, showers will develop late Wednesday, intensifying into thunderstorms by Thursday morning. Temperatures will rise to a high of 68°F, accompanied by gusty winds up to 20 mph. Motorists should plan for reduced visibility and slippery roads during peak travel times.

The storm system is expected to ease by Thursday evening, followed by cooler, drier conditions into Friday, with highs near 58°F. Looking ahead to the weekend, scattered showers and mild temperatures in the mid-60s are predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture and check local updates for potential flood warnings. Officials recommend avoiding low-lying areas and exercising caution when traveling through storm-prone routes.

Monday and Tuesday, by contrast, bring sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s, providing a brief respite before the midweek storms. Overnight lows Monday will dip to 41°F, while Tuesday night remains chilly at 45°F.
