Sioux Falls, SD – Snow-covered roads and sub-zero wind chills are creating hazardous travel conditions across the Sioux Falls region this week. An uptick in northwest winds early Monday will worsen visibility and lead to drifting snow along I-29 and nearby routes.
According to the National Weather Service, light snowfall will taper off by 4 a.m., but frigid conditions will persist through the morning commute. Gusts of up to 25 mph are expected, producing wind chills near -5°F and creating slick roadways. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution, especially during early rush hours.
Monday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high of 19°F, though wind speeds of 10-15 mph will keep conditions brisk. Overnight, temperatures will drop to a low of 9°F under partly cloudy skies, with calmer winds expected.
By Tuesday, a warming trend will bring a high near 30°F under sunny skies. However, gusty southwesterly winds reaching 20 mph could lead to brief periods of blowing snow in open areas.
Looking ahead, Wednesday brings a slight chance of flurries with highs near 34°F. Northwest winds gusting to 35 mph may lead to additional snow drift concerns. The rest of the week will see clearing skies and cold nights, with lows dipping into the single digits by Thursday.
