Binghamton, NY – A winter storm is sweeping through the region today, bringing heavy snow during the morning hours before transitioning to rain. Travelers along NY-17 and nearby roadways should prepare for slick conditions and limited visibility, particularly during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, valleys and lower elevations will see snow change to rain by mid-morning as temperatures climb. Higher elevations above 1,500 feet are likely to experience persistent snow, with accumulations of 1–3 inches possible. Commuters are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time as untreated roads may become hazardous.

By this afternoon, precipitation is expected to taper off, leaving behind a mix of rain and slushy snow. Temperatures will reach a high of 38°F, with lingering showers continuing into the evening. Tonight, expect a slight chance of rain and snow, with lows near 30°F.

Looking ahead, Saturday brings a 50% chance of snow showers before 9 a.m., followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high near 42°F. Sunday offers milder conditions, with partly cloudy skies and highs near 44°F—ideal for early Thanksgiving travel plans. Monday, however, sees the return of possible showers, impacting pre-holiday preparations.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and secure outdoor holiday decorations against gusty winds expected through the weekend. Stay updated via the National Weather Service for additional advisories.
