Chicago, IL – A wet and blustery start to the week will transition to colder conditions as Chicago braces for its first snow of the season. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts widespread showers Monday afternoon, followed by thunderstorms overnight. By midweek, temperatures will drop, with a rain-snow mix likely Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
According to the NWS, Monday’s high will hover between 56 and 62 degrees, with rain developing in the afternoon. Thunderstorms are expected overnight, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Tuesday brings milder weather, but conditions will shift dramatically by Wednesday as colder air sweeps in. The low Wednesday night is expected to dip to 33 degrees, bringing the season’s first chance of snow.
Travelers should be cautious on major roadways like I-90 and I-94, as slick conditions are possible with mixed precipitation expected early Thursday. Morning commuters should plan for potential delays, particularly in areas prone to icy spots. Breezy conditions will persist, with wind gusts up to 30 mph throughout the week.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast includes highs in the mid-40s by Friday, with additional chances of rain near Lake Michigan. Residents are urged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions and stay updated through local weather alerts.
Stay safe and plan accordingly for the first winter-like weather of the season.
