Charleston, SC – Residents along South Carolina’s coast face significant flooding as a Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect for Charleston and Colleton counties this morning. Major saltwater flooding is expected during high tide, particularly in low-lying areas including downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, and Folly Beach. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for road closures in flood-prone zones.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, high tide is anticipated to peak around 6:02 a.m., with flooding beginning as early as two hours beforehand and lasting several hours after. Rising waters may affect structures in low-lying areas and could make several main roads impassable. Highway 80, a key route near Tybee Island, is among the areas expected to experience high water levels, posing a significant hazard for drivers. Motorists are advised to remain alert, take alternate routes, and avoid flooded streets.

In addition to the immediate flooding risk, a Coastal Flood Advisory is also in place for South Carolina’s Beaufort and Jasper counties and areas along Georgia’s coastline, where moderate flooding may occur. This advisory highlights the extended impact of high tide conditions expected to affect the region throughout Thursday morning.

After this morning’s high tide subsides, Charleston is set for a mostly clear day with a high near 69°F. Looking ahead, the weekend forecast offers sunny skies, with highs reaching the mid-60s on Friday and climbing to 70°F by Sunday. Coastal residents should monitor updates from local authorities and remain vigilant, particularly during high tide events in the coming days.
