Blacksburg, VA – Temperatures in the Blacksburg area are expected to plunge tonight, with forecasts calling for the coldest night of the season thus far. Residents are advised to prepare for sub-freezing conditions, as temperatures could dip as low as 25 degrees in some areas. The National Weather Service warns that these low temperatures, combined with clear skies and calm winds, may lead to frosty roads and sidewalks, posing potential hazards for early Wednesday commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, the coldest temperatures will settle over the region from 7 p.m. Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday, with areas around Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Wytheville expected to reach the low 30s. Communities in the higher elevations near Route 81, including Lexington and Bluefield, may see lows between 25 and 28 degrees. Residents are encouraged to take precautions, including bringing pets indoors and covering exposed pipes to prevent freezing.
