Kansas City, MO – Residents in Kansas City and surrounding areas are urged to prepare for severe rain and potential flash flooding starting today, with storms expected to continue through Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), heavy showers will bring up to 2-4 inches of rainfall across parts of the Kansas City Metro, especially in areas east and south of the city. Commuters along I-70 and major roadways are advised to exercise caution due to potential water accumulation and limited visibility.
NWS reports that storm timing is critical: rain will intensify this morning, with additional waves expected overnight and throughout Monday. Thunderstorms may develop, posing localized flash flood risks. The heaviest downpours will likely occur today and into Monday evening. Flash flooding could impact low-lying areas and roads prone to pooling, and residents should monitor local weather updates for possible advisories or warnings.
Monday’s forecast calls for continued rainfall with gusts up to 30 mph, tapering off slightly Monday night, but not before adding an estimated quarter to a half inch more of precipitation. As skies clear on Tuesday, temperatures will drop to the low 40s overnight. By Wednesday, Kansas City residents can expect sunny skies with a high near 61, offering a brief respite before cooler, mostly sunny weather returns for Thursday, with highs around 59 degrees.
Drivers should remain alert, reduce speeds in heavy rain, and avoid flooded roadways. Local officials encourage residents to stay updated via local news channels or weather alerts, as conditions can change quickly.
