PADUCAH, KY – Residents in western Kentucky and the surrounding areas should prepare for significant rain and possible thunderstorms beginning Monday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah has forecasted a wet and windy start to the week, with heavy showers and thunderstorms expected overnight Monday into Tuesday. This weather pattern could bring up to 1.5 inches of rain in some areas, potentially impacting roads and causing localized flooding.
According to the NWS, a storm front moving in from the west is likely to deliver rain across southeastern Missouri, southern Illinois, and portions of western Kentucky by Monday night. While flooding potential remains moderate, the NWS advises residents to remain cautious, especially on roadways prone to water accumulation, and suggests checking local alerts regularly.
Temperatures will hover in the high 70s Monday, with a slight drop to the low 70s by Wednesday. On Tuesday, breezy conditions will accompany storms, with gusts up to 26 mph. Those planning to travel on major roadways, such as I-24 and Highway 60 near Paducah, should anticipate possible delays due to wet conditions.
The extended forecast shows a gradual cooling trend midweek, with a chance of lingering showers through Thursday. By Wednesday, the storm activity should ease, but scattered showers and cloud cover may persist. Temperatures will dip to highs in the low 70s and nighttime lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s, bringing cooler, autumn-like conditions.
With potential for heavy rain and wind, the NWS encourages residents to secure outdoor items, prepare for brief power outages, and monitor local weather updates for any changes.
