Naalehu, HI – Eight earthquakes struck near Naalehu, Hawaii early Saturday morning, rattling residents southeast of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The largest quake measured magnitude 3.4, with depths ranging from 7.3 to 11 kilometers below the surface.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quakes began at 1:19 a.m. local time with a magnitude 2.8 tremor, followed closely by several larger shocks. By 7:03 a.m., the region had experienced eight quakes, each within about 45 kilometers east-southeast of Naalehu. This activity raises concerns, though there are no immediate reports of significant damage.

USGS officials encourage residents to report if they felt the tremors, as citizen reports can help assess the intensity across the area. While earthquake swarms in the region are not unusual, this sequence emphasizes the need for awareness, especially near active volcanic areas.

Hawaii remains one of the most seismically active regions in the United States, given its volcanic activity. Residents are advised to stay informed and prepared for possible future events.
