Noda, Japan – A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck northern Japan on Sunday, with tremors reportedly felt near Noda and surrounding areas. The quake hit at 19:36 UTC, located about 48 kilometers east-northeast of Noda, at a depth of 53.2 kilometers.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the quake and encouraged residents to report any noticeable shaking. Citizen contributions provide vital data for tracking regional seismic activity and improving public safety measures. According to USGS, tremors from earthquakes of this magnitude are generally minor but can still cause unease among residents, especially in densely populated regions.

Officials reported no immediate damage or injuries, though locals may experience light aftershocks. Northern Japan, including Aomori Prefecture, sits within a tectonically active zone and regularly experiences minor to moderate quakes. Residents in nearby areas like Sendai and Morioka are advised to stay alert for any follow-up tremors.

The government urges people to review emergency plans and remain vigilant. For more information and to submit reports, visit USGS’s “Felt Report” portal.
