Wichita, KS – Kansas residents should brace for strong winds and a heightened risk of fire on Tuesday, with severe thunderstorms anticipated Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory through 7 a.m. Wednesday for central and southeastern Kansas, warning of gusts up to 50 mph, which elevate fire dangers in the region.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s unseasonably warm temperatures, reaching 81-85 degrees, combined with dry conditions, create a “very high” risk for grassfires. Residents should avoid any outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and exercise caution while driving, particularly on rural highways where strong gusts may affect vehicle control.

On Wednesday, the weather is expected to shift, with temperatures cooling to highs of 62-77 degrees as a cold front brings thunderstorms, some possibly severe. Central Kansas will experience lows in the mid-40s overnight, with showers likely to persist into early Thursday. This transition will bring cooler, drier air, providing relief from the warm and windy conditions.

By Thursday, skies will clear, with sunny conditions and highs in the low 60s. Friday will follow with similar weather, offering a dry and mild day before rain chances return Saturday, accompanied by scattered thunderstorms.

Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and take precautions, especially for fire safety and road conditions. Winds at 25-35 mph are expected through Wednesday morning, and high-profile vehicles should drive with caution.
