Kankakee, IL – A deadly crash shut down northbound lanes of Interstate 57 at mile marker 308 Saturday night, leaving multiple patients critically injured. The multi-vehicle collision caused significant damage and prompted emergency responders to request Lifeflight assistance and coroner services on the scene.
According to witnesses on the scene, an off-duty medic reported one fatality involving an instantaneous fatal injury and another patient in critical condition. Illinois State Police secured the area and closed all lanes to facilitate rescue and investigation efforts. Authorities advised motorists to avoid the area due to extensive delays and emergency personnel on-site.
Local responders worked throughout the evening to manage patient care, investigate the cause, and clear the wreckage. The identities of those involved have not been released.
