Grand Junction, CO – A major fall storm is moving into Colorado, expected to bring winter-like conditions to higher elevations throughout the weekend. Heavy snow accumulation is forecast for the San Juan Mountains, with up to 3 feet of snow possible in favored areas by midday Sunday. Residents in affected regions are urged to prepare for difficult travel conditions and to avoid unnecessary road trips during the storm.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction, the storm will move from northeast Arizona into the Colorado region, bringing substantial snowfall and colder-than-normal temperatures. The San Juan, Uinta, La Sal, and Abajo Mountains are expected to experience the heaviest accumulations. Snowfall will begin as early as Friday and continue through Sunday afternoon.

In addition to snowfall, the NWS has warned of rain showers in lower elevations and cooler temperatures across the entire region. Motorists should expect hazardous driving conditions, especially on mountain passes and roads leading into higher elevations. The storm could impact travel along U.S. Route 550, particularly in the mountainous areas surrounding the San Juan Mountains. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and road conditions frequently and to delay travel plans if possible.

Looking ahead, the system is expected to move out of the region by Sunday night. Cooler temperatures will linger into early next week, although no additional snowfall is expected beyond the weekend.
